Slipknot - .5 The Gray Chapter

It’s fun to rib Slipknot, but to do so is to acknowledge our respect for them. For only an ambitious, hard-working band is eligible to be laughed at so much. In other words, Slipknot exposes themselves to scrutiny — semi-anonymously, granted — so their occasional misstep is out in the open. And via their nine-man line-up and masks/vibe, Slipknot attempts more than a regular band does and therefore a higher number of their attempts fall flat.

Some quiet band of normal dudes doesn’t risk as much, nor do they interest as many people who may cheer and jeer them. But with Slipknot, there’s more of everything. When it’s something silly, we chuckle. When it’s something rad, we tip our caps. Your vibe with a huge band like Slipknot is not all or nothing, love blindly or hate totally, black or white — regardless of the fanciful attitudes of a hardcore fan (or any IMN).

We take each moment as its own, moments in which a band’s heroism won’t negate their folly, moments in which annoyance and affection co-exist, moments in which everybody on all sides of the band try to keep perspective. Keep yours! For now, be pumped about this new jam from .5 The Gray Chapter (below, via Revolver). Our awesome review here.
