Watch System of a Down’s First U.S. Live Show in Over a Year [Pro-Shot]

System of a DownThe “will they or won’t they” questions regarding whether System of a Down will record and release a new album have grown a little tiresome; once a year or so one of the bandmembers says something in the press (or via cryptic Tweet) revving the rumor engine into high gear, only for the inevitable let down that the band will be playing some live dates.

So how ’bout we stop obsessing over new SoaD music for the time being and focus on the band’s shows? They played at KROQ’s “Almost Acoustic Christmas” show in Los Angeles over the weekend, and there’s pro-shot footage of the entire set. Check it out below.

Here’s the thing, though: System of a Down aren’t a GREAT live band. A good live band, sure, but not the kind whose concerts rattle around in your brain for days afterwards. Maybe it’s because this kind of a live show would translate much better to a small venue as opposed to the 17,000+ seat Forum; I’d love to see them at, say, Irving Plaza or Bowery Ballroom. Their performance here just BEGS for band-to-audience interaction, and Arena Rock this band’s music is not. Still, it’s kinda neat to see these guys active again.

Chime in with your thoughts below.
