Meytal Cohen’s New Outfit “Meytal” Features ex-God Forbid, Threat Signal Members

meytalAxl and I went to see Machine Head’s 2.5 hour “Evening With” show at Irving Plaza on Friday night — which was pretty fuckin’ incredible — but that’s a story for another time. Before the band went on the venue had a screen pulled down in front of the stage advertising their upcoming shows, one of which was for a March show with Meytal Cohenwhose drumming videos we’ve featured on MetalSucks before — at Irving’s sister venue Gramercy Theater. Axl and I expressed simultaneous amusement and confusion — cool that she’s playing a show, but wouldn’t a solo drum show in a proper venue be kinda odd, even if you’re, like, Mike Portnoy or Neil Peart or someone mega-famous?

Turns out it won’t be a solo drum show at all: Cohen will be bringing a band with her, and that band will simply be called Meytal. Ex-God Forbid axeman (and MetalSucks columnist) Doc Coyle will share guitar duties with Threat Signal’s Travis Montgomery, while vocalist Eric Emery (of Concordia) and bassist Anel Orantes Pedrero complete the lineup, according to The PRP.

What form would such a show take, and what will the outfit sound like? The below video from Meytal’s recent performance at LA’s Whisky should give us a good idea. It’ll be interesting to see how this project develops — will it simply be a vehicle for Meytal Cohen to further her career as a YouTube star, or will it be a living, breathing, collaborative entity of its own?
