Crypt Sermon - Out of the GardenI’ve heard a lot of buzz about Crypt Sermon’s Out of the Garden from the doom set recently (and Grim Kim predicted the record’s awesomeness back in 2013), but it wasn’t until the album’s release on Tuesday that I finally managed to carve some time out from my busy schedule of writing snarky metal blogs, smoking weed, and eating cans of Chef Boyardee to sit down and listen to the record myself. But now that I’ve heard Out of the Garden, I can say with confidence: Holy shit, the hype is real!

I know this is gonna sound like an oxymoron, but: Out of the Garden is feel-good doom. It doesn’t drag the way a lot of doom does — on the contrary, it fucking rocks. The riffs are tasty. The drums are gargantuan. Brooks Wilson’s vocals sound like someone made a hybrid of Dio and a young Chuck Billy in a lab somewhere. It’s a better Black Sabbath record than 13 was, that’s for sure. Out of the Garden is, in a phrase, “Righteous, bruh.”

Out of the Garden is out now on Dark Descent. I implore you to check it out. You can stream it below and buy it here for just seven bucks. It could very well be the best seven bucks you spend this week.
