F*ck Fifty Shades of Grey, Spylacopa’s “Hexes” is the BDSM Flick of the Season

MSFWThe promise of Spylacopa’s totally rad, self-titled EP from 2008 will finally be fulfilled when the group releases their debut full-length, Parallels. Completion of the album was delayed following the tragic murder of drummer Troy Young during an apartment break-in in 2009, but Parallels will finally see the light of day at the end of this month — largely as a tribute to Young. Comments Spylacopa founder/mastermind John LaMacchia (also of Candiria fame):

“Troy Young tracked the drums for all the original material that made up the debut EP and most of what makes up this full length which is a huge reason why this record is being released. These are some of the last recordings of Troy Young tracking drums in a professional setting.

“After meeting Troy‘s family during the trial of his murder, I felt somewhat obligated to get this record out. Troy would have wanted this record to come out and I feel that this is a way of helping to keep him active and present. He was such a talented young guy who was just getting a foothold in New York City as a working and functioning musician when he was killed.”

Metal Injection  has now debuted the first single from Parallels, “Hexes,” via a (mildly NSFW) video, which plays like Fifty Shades of Grey but much shorter and less stupid and irritating. The song is very much in line with the material from the group’s EP, which is to say, it’s like a hybrid of Tool, Faith No More, and Alice in Chains… or, put more simply, “alt metal of the highest order.”

Watch/listen to “Hexes” below. Parallels comes out March 31 on Rising Pulse Record. As was the case with the EP, it will feature not only LaMacchia, but a horde of other notable musicians as well, including Jeff Caxide (Isis) and, perhaps most excitingly, the great Julie Christmas, who has been mostly absent from the scene following the 2010 release of her incredible solo album, The Bad Wife.

Oh, and BTW, you can listen to Spylacopa’s debut EP here if you’ve never heard it/need a refresher/just wanna rock out.
