Veil of Maya absolutely crushed last Thursday night at the Metal Injection SXSW showcase. We — and you — have been watching these guys play live for years now, so we all know what they’re capable of, but it was my first time seeing them live with new vocalist Lukas Magyar, who joined the band last fall. Thankfully he proved himself more than capable, even if his stage voice isn’t nearly as easy to poke fun at as previous VoM screamer Brandon Butler’s.

The day after the SXSW show Veil of Maya dropped a teaser clip for a new song. It’s a video clip starring the band members taking on roles as members of the Breaking Bad clan, and doing a pretty convincing job of it! Self-professed bandleader Marc Okubo as understated drug kingpin Gus Fring = perfect!

But perhaps the biggest shocker here is that the new song includes clean singing, a first (I think?) for Veil. Was this something that Magyar’s skillset brought to the table, or a direction the band was moving towards anyway? Hard to say right now, but I’m sure the topic will be dissected thoroughly on Internet message boards in the run-up to Veil’s new album, and thankfully the band has the wherewithal here to be able to make fun of themselves for it. Expect this full track to drop later today.
