gwar-b-q 2015Hope you’re hungry, motherfuckers: although additional bands have yet to be unveiled, Gwar have now announced that the sixth edition of their annual Gwar-B-Q show will take place on Saturday, August 15, once again at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond, VA. And this year’s ‘Q promises to be extra-special, ’cause it’s the band’s “30th year of conquest on this fucking shit-hole planet.” In addition to whatever stops they break out for Gwar-B-Q, the group promises “a slew of satellite events to be held across Richmond over the three-day weekend of August 14th through 16th.”

Here’s the commercial for this year’s event, which is as entertaining as any ad for the show the band has produced in the past six years:

In related news… well… I’m just gonna cut and paste this section of the press release in its entirety:

“In other GWAR news, your Lords and Masters will be travelling back in time to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the film Empire Records, in which they had a starring role.  GWAR will make an appearance during the anniversary Celebration in Brooklyn, NY April 8th – 10th.  More details on GWAR‘s invasion of Brooklyn, NY can be seen HERE.”

Metal Insider says the screenings are already sold out, which I find completely fucking insane. Despite starring a post-Aerosmith-videos Liv Tyler and pre-Jerry Maguire Renee Zellweger, Empire Records was a MASSIVE bomb in 1995, grossing less than $300,000 at the domestic box office (the reviews weren’t kind, either). I remember renting the movie with a coed crowd of friends, and being super-stoked that Gwar had a cameo — but no one else in the room had any clue who the fuck they were. The fact that twenty years later the movie is a cult smash and it seems like everyone knows who Gwar are, even if they’re not metal fans, just boggles my mind.

Here’s Gwar’s scene from the movie:
