I Don’t Mind This Black Metal Cover of Alice in Chains’ “Angry Chair”

black metal layne staleyAt first, I was kinda surprised to realize that Alice in Chains’ “Angry Chair” works so well as a black metal song… but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made to me. The Pacific Northwest and Scandinavia are both enshrouded in clouds as often as they are in sun, and if any grunge band had a bleak-enough worldview to compete with the truly misanthropic bastards who created black metal, it was Alice in Chains, half of whose founding line-up is now dead. So this isn’t really counter-intuitive at all.

But it’s still good! It comes to us courtesy of Dritt Skitt (“shit” in Swedish and Norwegian), a new project from Infernaeon’s Taylor Nordberg and Jeramie Kling (the latter of whom you may also know from The Absence). You can stream it below; then head over to Bandcamp to listen to the rest of and/or purchase Dritt Skitt’s debut EP, Arachnid Assailant. It may or may not be a concept album about the plight of late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Just speculating.
