Deftones Near Completion of New Album, Release Date Announced

Deftones Eros Possible ReleaseSweet merciful jesus, we may yet see another Deftones album before we die. According the The PRP, the release date set for the new record is September 25th.

Vocalist Chino Moreno had the following to say about it:

“The record as far as music has been all recorded and I am currently working on the vocals. I’ve been recording from my home studio here in Oregon. Slowly but surely getting it done. It’s coming out really good, it’s another Deftones record, I feel like us reaching a little bit, getting more into… The song structures, trying to challenge ourselves a little bit you know what I mean? It’s sounding good, I think it’s gonna be a great record.”

“It’s another Deftones record.” What does that even mean? Like, it’s just another Deftones record, as in it’s gonna be Koi No Yokan II: Electric Boogaloo? “Getting more into the song structures” — as many artists do, late in the game, I’m sure we can expect self-indulgent 9+ minute multi-part suites with a poorly orchestrated symphony, bagpipes, and world music beats (no wait, that’s Nightwish).

I’m sure it’s going to be great — when have they ever put out a stinker? — but it’s tough having so little to go on, and not knowing what to expect. September is a long way off, so that’s plenty of time to go completely mad wondering.

Until then, you can prepare your body for the throwback tour of the century when Deftones and Incubus share a stage. Dig deep into your closet for those Jncos.
