Informal Reader Poll: Who’s Scary In Metal?

In heavy music, there have always been really scary bands, bands who seemed to go too far and attracted fans who were a little too intense about their love of this music. Zeppelin was cool, but Black Sabbath was scary. Ozzy and Judas Priest may have worried parents in the 1980s, but Venom and Slayer scared the living shit out of them. And in the ’90s and 2000s, you had the black metal guys in Norway murdering people and Slipknot inhaling dead crows in the US.

But these days, I don’t know who the scary bands are. Maybe that’s because I’m nearly 30 and I just don’t have my finger on the pulse of what freaks out the average suburban dad. But maybe there’s nothing shocking left these days.

So, you tell us: who’s scary in metal? Who pushes the envelope? Whose fanbase seems the most rabid in a way you don’t want to get involved with?
