Drumkit … Megadeth (US) @ Fri-Son, Fribourg, Switzerland, 29.0This is interesting: in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Dave Mustaine was asked which drummers, besides Lamb of God’s Chris Adler, were considered for the new Megadeth album. Said Mustaine:

“I talked with my friend [ex-Dream Theater drummer] Mike Portnoy, who I think is an amazing talent. I talked to [ex-Slayer drummer] Dave Lombardo. [Current Dream Theater drummer] Mike Mangini’s name has come up.”

I can’t imagine any sane metalhead being the least bit disappointed that ultimately Adler was the one who wound up in the studio with the band… but given how much excitement there was over Dave Lombardo’s whole “I’m waiting for Dave Mustaine’s call” statement, I’m sure there are some Megadeth fans biting their knuckles right now.

In any case, while Adler won’t be touring with ‘Deth, Mustaine says that “we have a drummer committed to our [upcoming live] dates,” the presumably the band’s new full-time drummer will be announced soonish.

You can read the rest of the interview here. Mustaine also talks about why he ultimately didn’t reunite with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza… and by “talks about” I mean basically blames them for the reunion not happening, without getting into specifics so as to deny fans the ability to judge for themselves. Shrug.
