Lindemann - Skills in Pills

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to another ass-kicking Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and now, we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up!

·

Lindemann - Skills in PillsLindemann
Skills In Pills (Warner Brothers)
On a playlist with: Rammstein + Die Antwoord
Listen “Praise Abort” (here)

If you don’t love Rammstein, then something in you might be kaputt. But holy shit, paired with Hypocrisy’s Peter Tagtgren (and singing auf Englisch), Rammstein singer Till Lindemann crashes and burns like a Zeppelin. Sample lyrics: “I hate my life and I hate you,” and “I have six kids and I don’t like it/They eat too much and treat me like shit.” The NSFW video (above) is worth a watch if you’re interested in humanoid monsters with six tits.

The Ghost Next DoorThe Ghost Next Door
The Ghost Next Door (Mausoleum)
On a playlist with: Faith No More, Living Colour, Tomahawk
Listen “Eleven O’Clock Blues” (here)

The Ghost Next Door’s The Ghost Next Door kind of feels like the guy next door: available to hang out, but not invited along on vacation. There’s even a bit of proggy weirdness which is a welcome addition to the already cool and offbeat songwriting.

forndomForndom
Flykt (Nordvis)
On a playlist with: Kauan, Wolves In The Throne Room, Alcest
Listen Flykt full stream (here)

Shhhhhhh. It’s time for meditation. Relaxation. Maybe some incense. Flykt is pretty syk, especially if you consider yourself kvlt but still synsetive. Swedish-ness aside, it’s nice to keep your music library (like your medicine cabinet) stocked with brain-relaxers. Pop a few of these, and your eyelids will dance to an ethereal near-silence from the great beyond!

·

sonic poisonSonic Poison
Sonic Poison EP (Lifeline)
On a playlist with: punching, kicking, chopping
Listen Sonic Poison EP full stream (here)

It’s refreshing to know that hardcore punk has 1) not been forgotten, and 2) can still appeal to even the snobbiest metalheads. This Sonic Poison EP is raw, disgusting, and (insert generic adjective here) as fuck, but makes no qualms about being straightforward as well. Also, wicked awesome guitar solos!

·

vanumVanum
Realm Of Sacrifice (Profound Lore)
On a playlist with: Ash Borer, Fell Voices, Altar Of Plagues
Listen Realm Of Sacrifice full stream (here)

Profound Lore Records is a deft curator of solid black metal bands. Vanum is no exception, which features the dude from Ash Borer (also fuckin’ awesome). Realm Of Sacrifice is a messy and moody, with oddly non-depressing depressing progressions and tons of mystifying fuzz.

·

nevoaNévoa
The Absence Of Void (Altare)
On a playlist with: Vanum, Deafheaven, Ghost Bath
Listen “A Thousand Circles” (here)

And bringing up the post-y end of black metal is Nevoa, who hail from Portugal. Expect more sentimentality and touchy-feels compared to harder releases in the genre (see above: Vanum). The Absence Of Void bites hard though, and in all the right ways — taking you down a more contemplative, inward-focus path. Good headphone jams for when you need to mull in a darkened corner like a wimp (guilty).
