Queensryche 2013 (no Tate)

UPDATE: The new Queensryche album will be called Condition Hüman, will be released on October 7th and can be pre-ordered here

Queensryche’s 2013 self-titled album — their first to feature new frontman Todd La Torre in place of hair-style pioneer Geoff Tate — was pretty good, right? It didn’t bowl anyone over, and it certainly didn’t reinvent the wheel, but it had a few decent bangers on it for sure. Mostly it was just really refreshing to hear the rest of the ‘Ryche dudes get back to rocking without the bloat of Tate’s overblown concepts and overinflated ego getting in the way.

The Tate-less verison of Queensryche and Tate’s new band (now called Operation: Mindcrime) will once again both release competing albums at the exact same time this year, but the official ‘Ryche (™) are the first to put out a single. It’s called “Arrow of Time,” and though the band hasn’t yet revealed what the new album will be called, they have told us it was produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris and will be released in October. It’s a classic Queensryche ripper with guitar and vocal hooks abound (and plenty of harmonies on both), and La Torre sounds great here; not that we didn’t already know this, but La Torre was definitely a fantastic choice to fill Tate’s shoes. This version of Queensryche continues to smoke whatever polished turd Tate’s band is hawking these days.
