Well if your special power is to metamorphose into other creatures — a la one of the many supernatural contingents on True Blood (before it got downright terrible, of course) — that I’d really like to see. But leave the sheep shifting to these filthy animals from Nashville, Tennessee…

I first got hip to Sheep Shifter last year, and my life hasn’t been the same ever since.  The band’s live performance is truly a spectacle and sight to behold, but I don’t know if I can describe it any better than the band does on its Bandcamp page:

Some hear Jesus Lizard, some hear Blood Brothers, but if you stand too close, you won’t hear anything afterwards. Sheep Shifter delivers tight rhythmic guitars, and bombastic yet driving drum and bass rippage, all while the lead-singer attempts to destroy all gear and band members between feverish vocal outbursts…

If you EVER have the chance to catch these guys play, do not miss out.

Those in the Nashville area probably already know about Sheep Shifter’s release show happening this Friday for the band’s new trio of split EPs; alas, the rest of us will just have to listen to (and hopefully buy) said EPs on ye olde interweb and patiently wait for these maniacs to roll through our respectively shitty towns.
