I haven’t had much time to spend with Hate Eternal’s new album, Infernus, as I’d like, but my initial impression is this: it’s not quite as great as the last few offerings from Erik Rutan and company, but it’s still pretty great, and may even simply be a victim of my very, very, very high expectations for all things Rutan-related. But regardless of where Infernus actually ranks on the Rutan Awesomeness Spectrum, it is a fucking crusher that is more than worthy of your attention, and could very well end up on a lot “Best Of” lists at the conclusion of 2015. Put more succinctly: on his not-quite-best day, Erik Rutan is still greater than almost anyone else in the genre.
