Deafheaven’s “Come Back”: Sadly Not a Misfits Cover

Deafheaven - New Bermuda

If there’s one album in 2015 that you’re going to find yourself talking about whether you like it or not, it’s Deafheaven’s New Bermuda. Even if you thought Sunbather sucked, you can’t deny the massive impact it had, and the new album is just going to ride that hype wave into your life, regardless of how quickly you dismiss it as hipster bullshit.

The thing is, New Bermuda is already shaping up to be a solid release. The first track Deafheaven premiered from it, “Brought To The Water,” was actually pretty cool. And now the band has put out a second track, “Come Back”, and it’s also a solid song.

I’m not sure I like “Come Back” as much as I did “Brought To The Water” — it’s a bit more on-the-nose Deafheaven, with its black metal opening and pretty, heat-wavery breakdown in the middle. But it still has really solid riffs at various points, and is different from the majority of what I’ve heard this year, so it still gets a solid thumbs up in my book.

Listen to “Come Back” below. Prepare to start talking about New Bermuda with your non-metal friends on October 2nd, and catch the band on tour this fall.
