Watain Satanic Deathnoise From The Beyond

Listening to Watain’s first two masterpieces Sworn To The Dark (2007) and Lawless Darkness (2010), a fan might sense that they’re the work of a wise, mature band. A fan senses also a desire to experience their presumably numerous earlier albums asap, and that a juicy career-spanning box set would make short work of doing that. Then that anthology arrives with Sworn and Lawless alongside only two previous albums, and your only reaction is the same as if you’d been told that Psycho and Vertigo are Hitchcock’s third and fourth feature films. Impossible!

But it’s true, Watain is a prodigious band, a toddler pounding down the freeway behind the wheel of a cement mixer. And our imagined collection of Watain’s discography becomes a real thing on October 16. Titled Satanic Deathnoise From The Beyond — The First Four Albums, it includes their debut and sophomore albums, Rabid Death’s Curse (2000) and Casus Luciferi (2003), which rip more modestly than their box buddies Sworn and Lawless, and set in motion a release arc in which we now see a resemblance to Bathory’s — via The Wild Hunt in 2013. In Watain’s world, that’s highest praise.

Watain’s first four albums comprise the Satanic Deathnoise From The Beyond box set, out October 16 via Season Of Mist. Pre-order here.
