Following the release of their new song “Fatal Illusion” yesterday, Megadeth have now announced all the details for their new album: it’s called Dystopia, it’s coming out January 16, and the album cover/latest incarnation of Vic Rattlehead will look like this:Megadeth - DystopiaI think “Fatal Illusion” is… fine. Definitely better than Supercollider, but that’s a sub-seventh-level-of-Hell bar to get over. Chris Adler’s drums are unsurprisingly killer and there’s some cool riffs, but after listening twice in a row for professional reasons, I did not feel compelled to listen again for fun (and, p.s., new lead guitarist Kiko Loureiro made no real impression on me at all). If the song is any indication of the rest of the album’s quality, I’m guessing Dystopia will be on par with United Abominations. In other words: perfectly acceptable for a legacy band!

We’ll find out for really reals in January, though. ‘Til then, feel free to make your own speculations about Dystopia in the comments section. If you still haven’t heard “Fatal Illusion,” listen here.
