Shining’s “The Last Man Standing” Video Is Bloody and Mean

You might think, with their genre-merging and fashion shoot-style promo photos and critical acclaim, that Norwegian blackjazzers Shining are a bunch of twee saxophone-loving hipsters–I did back in the day — but that would be a mistake. They’re a bunch of twee saxophone-loving metal motherfuckers, and you’ll give them the vest-clad respect they deserve while they blast Norway from the edge of a cliff.

The band’s newest video for “The Last Stand” (we ran a live video of it before) does a solid job at separating Shining from their polished image. It depicts some sort of pagan fight club in which a bunch of filth-caked shirtless men beat the living shit out of each other before resorting to primitive violence with sharpened tools. It smartly allows the viewer to take the song out of the context of Shining’s aesthetic, and as such showcases just how crushing a track

Check out “The Last Stand” below. International Blackjazz Society is out now on Spinefarm.
