Intronaut - The Last Direction of Things

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to the new Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up!

·

Heavy EyesThe Heavy Eyes
He Dreams Of Lions (Kozmik Artifactz)
On a playlist with: Mountain, High Rise, Led Zeppelin
Listen “Saint” “Z-Bo” and “Somniloquy” (here)

Some of y’all need to lay back and chill — literally — the fuck out. I guess we’re partially at fault: promoting and talking about and shitting upon angry, fast, violent music of all types all day! Yeah! Okay, so time for some metallic rock with upbeat swings and late-night-at-the-bar sensibilities. Nothing special, nothing noteworthy, just a chance to lounge!

·

HegemonHegemon
The Hierarch (Season Of Mist)
On a playlist with: the blackened Arch Enemy
Listen The Hierarch full stream (here)

Known for its interesting portfolio, Season Of Mist drops another one on us: The Hierarch. And… it’s okay. Well, actually it’s pretty good, and definitely interesting, but one of those oh-too-smooth dealios, like it was coated in Astroglide and bits of Ray Charles — glossing right over you on first listen! This is one of those “starter black metal” albums which actually has a lot going for it!

·

FirespawnFirespawn
Shadow Realms (Century Media)
On a playlist with: Cattle Decapitation + Cannibal Corpse
Listen “Ruination” (here)

Super-polished, overproduced death metal is common these days. Every 13 minutes or so, a new death metal band emerges with the same riffs, same vocals, and same song constructions. Sometimes we like them (if we’re in the mood for death metal at that very moment), and sometimes we don’t. So it becomes hard to tell — the genre gets saturated — and opinions get flimsy! So, what about Firespawn?

·

MolokenMoloken
All Is Left To See (Temple Of Tortuous)
On a playlist with: Blackwaves, Vygr, Celestine
Listen All Is Left To See full stream (here)

Experimental. Swedish. Post. Okay, before you bust out the tissues, mags, and baby oil (??), take a full listen. It’s probably worth it. The album ranges from post-math kind of stuff to huge bursts of hard black metal. The technicality and obstructed-flow style may turn some listeners off, but if that starts to happen to you, remember to open your damn mind for once!

·

KauanKauan
Sorni Nai (Blood)
On a playlist with: viking dreams, metal funeral, campfires with grandpa
Listen Sorni Nai full stream (here)

Masters of chamber funeral doom metal Kauan have squeezed out another one! “Will this put me to sleep?” Yes, most likely. “Is this, like, really moody with a bunch of piano bits and slow beats?” Yes, definitely. If you’re into this “quiet” doom type of jam, check out 2013 release Pirut, which is fantastic. Also, that singing in Finnish sounds great (note: I don’t speak Finnish).

·

AweAwe
Providentia (Pulverised)
On a playlist with: Earth And Pillars, Mare Cognitum
Listen Providentia full stream (here)

Right off the bat: this album is pretty much unlistenable, and for two reasons. Reason one: it is so hilariously goddamn intense that you need mental breaks between the tracks, which are huge. Reason two: it is so fantastic that you can’t bear to waste all the excitement in one sitting. Providentia should appear on 2015 top-whatever lists of fans of this flavor of black metal: postmodern, hyper-expressive, and eerily futuristic. If you haven’t heard of Awe before (I hadn’t), check out their song on this split EP from last year.
