This New 24-LP Emperor Box Set is INSANE

0

Record label Blood Music has a thing for massive box sets: the Moonsorrow set they released last year had a whopping 14 LPs covering thirteen years of the band’s history. And no expense was spared: the audio was pressed on 200-gram vinyl, the set came with tons of artwork, there were extra goodies included, it was packaged in a beautiful case, etc, etc. They’ve also made their mark on the metal scene with several elaborate, special edition vinyl sets over the past few years.

So it’s no surprise that Blood Music will be the label to put out an absolutely ridonkulous Emperor box set next year that’ll be nearly DOUBLE the size of the Moonsorrow one. Look at this fucking thing:

Emperor box set

Here’s what’s included, in case your eyes — like mine — aren’t capable of taking in everything in that image in one stroke:

  • 50 center labels
  • 26 heavyweight inner sleeves
  • 24 heavyweight LPs
  • 10 heavyweight triple-gatefold jackets
  • 4 heavy card stock inserts

  • 1 signed lyrics sheet (for 2015 orders only)

Vinyl audio contents:

  • “Wrath of the Tyrant” (1992) LP.
  •  “Rehearsal 1992” (1992) LP.
  •  “Emperor EP” (1993) LP.
  •  “The Akkerhaugen Tapes” (1993) LP.
  •  “In the Nightside Eclipse” (1994) 2xLP.
  •  “As the Shadows Rise” (1994) 7″.

  •  “Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise” (2001) 2xLP.
  •  “Live Inferno” (2009) 3xLP.
  •  “Live at Wacken 2006: A Night of Emperial Wrath” (2009) 3xLP.
  •  “Bonus Tracks & Rarities” (2016) 3xLP. ***

*** The “Bonus Tracks & Rarities” triple LP features:
LP1 – All four songs by Emperor from the “Thorns vs. Emperor” split.
LP2 – Seven songs of Emperor covering other bands (Bathory, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Mercyful Fate, Darkthrone, and Mayhem).
LP3 – Eight alternative versions of Emperor songs, either remixed or re-recorded.

666 copies of the box set will be manufactured: 222 in transparent blue base with black marble vinyl, 222 on “ultra clear” vinyl and 222 on black vinyl. They’ll set you back a pretty penny — €700, or about $768 USD at today’s exchange rate — and the set won’t ship for several months still, but I have to imagine that longtime Emperor fans are gonna gobble up all 666 in no time.
