Megadeth Dystopia 1000x1000

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.

NaðraNaðra
Allir Vegir Til Glötunar (Signal Rex)
On a playlist with: Misþyrming, Celeste, Wiegedood
Listen Allir Vegir Til Glötunar full stream (here)

Is most black metal too long-winded for you? Yet most short-winded black metal leaves you limp? Naðra is the cure! In 2014, they dropped 17 minutes of black metal juiciness spanning just two tracks. This year, we get five (oh boy!) which range from normal-length to, well, normal-length for black metal. The point is: Allir Vegir Til Glötunar is simultaneously a quick punch and a long burn, making it well-rounded indeed.

Mandroid EchostarMandroid Echostar
Coral Throne (Distort)
On a playlist with: The Safety Fire, The Haarp Machine, Protest The Hero
Listen Coral Throne full stream (here)

What happens when you cross progressive, pop singing, and breakdowns? Well, you get Protest The Hero minus the breakdowns — so Mandroid Echostar is like Protest The Hero with breakdowns. Why do we need breakdowns? Because they’re usually pretty fuckin’ cool. Coral Thone is a decent album, though it does beg questions about whatever happened the attitude which promulgated this awesomeness (hint: triple-guitar, triple-awesome playthrough video)?

MortuaryMortuary
Nothingless Than Nothingness (Goregeous)
On a playlist with: Horrendous, Cattle Decapitation, Cryptopsy
Listen Nothingless Than Nothingness full stream (here)

Not-renowned-for-their-particularly-good-album-titles-but-writes-pretty-decent-music-anyway band Mortuary has a new album. That’s the news. Also that it falls into the category of death metal albums which slay like the big guys but who fly under that Cattle Decapitation radar. They’ve been around for a while but haven’t released an album in five years, so here’s a fresh reminder: Mortuary is a name which commands respect!

·

Ondt Blood FinnmarkOndt Blod
Finnmark (Loyal Blood)
On a playlist with: Jabba, Kollwitz, punching the air
Listen “Symbola” (here)

Finnmark is a true coming-to-terms album, bridging metal and hardcore so nicely that it blinds us from the boundaries. Good stuff. Ondt Blod has carved out a broad appeal, and though while not the deepest, they make use of crowd/riff tactics to get your blood rushing and brain raging into kill mode. If the album title wasn’t a giveaway, these dudes are from Scandinavia, and the characteristic “softer” edge and groovy pretensions play out here well enough in this saucy debut.

·

Black BloodBlack Blood
Black Blood (Inverse)
On a playlist with: Zakk Wylde’s wilder cousin
Listen “Clarity” (here)

Black Blood is the kind of band who’d you expect to arrive in a cloud of “fog” chanting their name (same name as the album, dual purpose then). Then you realized they weren’t emerging from the cloud of “fog” but that it was actually following them. What a party, you’d think to yourself, should I join? Hell yeah I should, Black Blood is hog-wild!

·

Escalane The Days Of DecayEscalane
The Days Of Decay (Inverse)
On a playlist with: ask your girlfriend
Listen The Days Of Decay full stream (here)

If your girlfriend wanted to be into super-obscure Finnish metal just like you, then she’d probably quickly realize that most of it is terrible. Luckily, because you are so keen and adept at musicology and Scandinavian studies and deep-sea fishing, you’ll know to give her The Days Of Decay. Check out that super hip album artwork too! Great music for long afternoons at the coffee shop, sipping that fair trade shit, thinking about high-‘n’-mighty shit, and reading about the new shit which came out today (good on you, chap).
