Having previously released albums through Victory, eOne, and Sumerian, NWOAHM pioneers Darkest Hour are now going back to their DIY roots: the band has launched a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo to raise $50,000 to independently record and release their ninth full-length.

Here’s a video making the big announcement:

As a massive fan of this band, and knowing how hard they’ve worked and how much they’ve struggled to remain afloat (there’s a good reason they’re still standing so long after so many of their peers have thrown in the towel), I’m proud of these dudes, and I have little doubt that they’ll give the fans their money’s worth.

Speaking of money: as is always the case with these sorts of campaigns, there are a number of goodies to be had, depending on how much you’re willing and able to donate. You can donate as little as ten bucks to get a digital copy of the album, but my personal favorite package comes in at $250 — ’cause it includes a “Golden Laminate” which “grants you free entry into any Darkest Hour show for life, globally, to be used as much as you want (disclaimer: band not responsible for loss of hearing).” The answer to the question “Do you wanna go see Darkest Hour live?” is always “YES!”, so that shit’ll pay for itself in no time.
