Burnt by the Sun and Revocation Members Unite in River Black

You may or may not recall Argonauts, the totally bad-assed group featuring vocalist Dimitri Minakakis (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan), guitarist John Adubato (ex-Burnt by the Sun), bassist Brett Bamberger (Revocation, ex-East of the Wall), and drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, ex-Burnt by the Sun, every band ever). They were every bit as fucking awesome as their members suggest they would be, but after Minakakis left the band in 2012, they kinda went away, which is a bummer.

But Argonauts’ members obviously remained on good terms — Witte and Bamberger also ended up being in Publicist UK together — and now it seems like they’ve returned at last, albeit in a revised form: River Black is a new project which is basically Argonauts with Witte and Adubato’s former Burnt by the Sun bandmate Mike Olender on vocals in place of Minakakis. And as big of a Minakakis fan as I am, I find it impossible to complain about adding Olender to the line-up.

So this is good news! Also good news: the band has signed with Season of Mist and, according to The PRP, “are currently recording their debut for the label at Trax East with producer Eric Rachel (Municipal Waste, God Forbid).” They’ll make their live debut at next month’s New England Metal & Hardcore Fest.

So, no music to hear yet, but probably new music to hear real soon. I can’t wait! In the meantime, let’s all tide ourselves over with some Argonauts live footage, shall we?
