Here’s Behemoth’s Nergal Recording His New “Blues, Country, and Folk” Project

In April of last year, Behemoth frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski announced he would be working on a solo project, which he described as “the most primitive, acoustic-based stuff.” Well, Nergal has now posted some rehearsal footage of this new endeavor, a “blues, country, and folk” project, on his Instagram. Check it out:

…huh! I mean, this is kind of what I expected, something in the vein of Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, and Those Poor Bastards (PS, how good are Those Poor Bastards, right?). It’s countrified, obviously, but has a bit of that gospel gothic tone to it rather than straight-forward old timey country. Heavy on the blues.

We can only hope this isn’t the beginning of Nergal becoming fed up with death metal. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first to support branching out from your primary interest, but I love Behemoth so much that it would break my heart if Nergal followed in the footsteps of a certain Swedish death metal svengali (I’ll give you a hint, his name rhymes with Bikael Bakerfeldt).

Anyway, we’ll be interested to see how this country project turns out. Meanwhile, if you’re more interested in Behemoth, you can catch them on tour with Myrkur in April at one of the dates here.
