Sourvein frontman “T-Roy” has assembled quite the cast of characters to help his vision come to life on the band’s new album. “Ocypuss,” which premiered last month, featured Randy Blythe’s low-key croon alongside Mike Dean (bass) and Reed Mullin (drums), both of Corrosion of Conformity. Elsewhere on Aquatic Occult, members of Amebix, Weedeater and Sea of Tyrants chip in.

Today’s guests of honor are Dean Berry, formerly of English sludge metal vets Iron Monkey on lead guitar, and Chris Holcombe and Joel Martin of doom metal outfit Subrig Destroyer (providing drums and additional rhythm guitar, respectively). They join Sourvein mainstays Kevin Rochelle (Sea of Tyrants) on guitar and Lou Gorra on bass alongside T-Roy on vocals. The twisting, churning guitar riff that propels “Aquanaut” forward is one for the ages — and one that’s deceptively difficult to hum along to — and the track’s doomy, crusty vibes evoke nights spent in the dim-lit, hazy, beer-soaked institutions that’ve become every metalhead’s shrines.

Aquatic Occult comes out on April 8th via Metal Blade Records and can be pre-ordered here.
