Like Rats II

The awesome brutal hardcore band Weekend Nachos announced their break-up back in January, and it’s totally possible that you weren’t rocked by that news. Though a fan sensed that their destiny was to be a big, impactful band, really WN got only partway down that path. An extreme band with their profile could elude your attention easily. No big whoop.

On the other hand, to know Weekend Nachos is to love them. So if their music did cross your path — or rather, tackle you on the path and grind your face into the gravel — then your reaction to their announcement could only be strong. Still, the good news is that even as WN wraps up with a new album and bursts of tour dates, one member already is part of an awesome new album. That band is Like Rats — with WN guitarist Andy Turner on bass — and its driving force is a guitarist named Todd Nief. And as a writer we love points out, Nief and Like Rats convey mourning fans of WN from Chicago basement to ’90s Florida — and fans of the latter to the former, too. And as we point out right now, it’s awesome chaotic death metal. Crank it up!

Like Rats’ II came out Friday via Southern Lord. Get it here and here.
