This New Katatonia Track is Sadder than Edgar Allen Poe at the Diner

0

Earlier this month, we gave goth metalheads a brief respite from their eternal ennui by announcing that Katatonia are set to release their new album, The Fall of Hearts, in May. Now, we plunge them back into that endless gyre of emotional torment by giving them the first new track from that record, “Old Heart Falls.” You can watch the lyric video below.

But we gotta warn you, guys — this song is super, super sad, and the lyric video doesn’t help. It’s full of lamenting one’s heartache and wondering why the world allows such agony to exist. There might be a girl at the center of it; I can’t figure it out, though, because I’m distracted by my mascara running everywhere. Meanwhile, the video features the lyrics of the song being typed on an antique typewriter shown through a sepia filter. Doesn’t it just make you want to blow your nose into your cravat along the streets of 1889 Paris?

Watch the lyric video for “Old Heart Falls” below and do your best not spread your arms Christ-like in the rain. The Fall of Hearts drops May 20th on Peaceville.
