Iron Maiden are Making Insane Money on Their Current World Tour

Billboard has released attendance and grosses for some of the shows on Iron Maiden’s current world tour, and holy fucking crap: they’re making bank!

Now, running an Iron Maiden tour is far from cheap, so these grosses don’t reflect the amount the band actually takes home. As we know, they’ve chartered a customized 747 jet to fly the band, their crew, their stage setup and their gear between cities; the costs of that alone must be astronomical, between the rental of the plane itself, overhauling it for the needs of the tour, fuel, flight crew, etc. And the band also has to pay their own crew, hotels, management, their agency, the opening band (in this case Anthrax, who themselves aren’t cheap), food/drink for everyone, etc. before they even see a pound. The promoter and/or ticketing agency probably takes a cut, too.

BUT these figures do not include merch, merch being an area in which Iron Maiden notoriously clean up. Last time I went to see them (five years ago?) all t-shirts were $40 (!), and the merch booths were completely mobbed before and after the show.

So… take these figures with a grain of salt… but not a spoonful. The six lads in Iron Maiden are definitely all making a pretty penny here… except perhaps for Janick Gers. Poor Janick!
