Machine Head - Is There Anybody Out There

Here’s a nice morning treat: Machine Head have released a new single entitled “Is There Anybody Out There?” That the song rocks won’t be a topic of contention amongst fans — no surprises there — but the lyrics might be.

Vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn says that “The song is about love, loneliness, racism, and not getting what is going on in the world/America.” And while he never mentions a certain revered metal vocalist by name, it’s hard to hear lyrics like “Ashamed of the racists I used to call brothers” and think that a recent incident with said singer didn’t impact the track. There’s obviously larger implications here beyond just the ethics of the metal community, but… like I said, it seems clear that this whole brouhaha is at the root of the song.

“Is There Anybody Out There?” will be released this Friday, June 3, on all digital platforms and streaming services. In the meantime, you can listen to the track here. The player automatically starts again when the song is over, which is super convenient for obsessive repeat listeners (like me)!
