Video Footage of Prophets of Rage Live Debut (Rage Against the Machine + Chuck D. + B-Real)

Prophets of RageIf you, like the rest of the Internet, let out a big fat “meh” when the countdown Rage Against the Machine’s website’s so vociferously teased last month led to the announcement of Prophets of Rage — Rage Against the Machine with Public Enemy’s Chuck D. and Cypress Hill’s B-Real instead of Zack de la Rocha — then prepare to be underwhelmed by a heaping spoonful of meh-itude once again: footage of the band’s first live show has surfaced.

The show took place last night at The Whisky in Los Angeles. It’s not that the performance is bad — it’s fine — it’s just exactly what you’d expect from Chuck D. and B-Real fronting Rage Against the Machine: serviceable version of RATM, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill’s greatest hits. The band sounds tight, both rappers are super-talented… but it’s nothing revelatory, and I’m not sure it’s worth caring about either. It just is what it is. And maybe that’s the point — for it to be just a fun thing — but I find it really hard to get excited about in light of all three bands’ incredible individual legacies.

Watch some fan-filmed footage of the show below.
