Throane

As a beloved MetalSucks reader, you’re probably buzzing from our mid-year recap of 2016’s best, heaviest releases (arriving all week here). You’re probably a bit validated by the Best Of 2016 … So Far lists authored by MS staffers whose tastes match your own — and kinda served by lists from our dudes who listen to, like, everything and report back on the best from all corners of heavy music. After all, an exceptional album is kinda preference-proof, like a chirpy, dingbat crossfit girl who is nonetheless irresistible to your wang.

So you need not think of yourself as a lover of dense, brooding black metal to love Throane, whose debut kinda vaults over the barriers set before your jaded metal soul. It’s spacey and cinematic, sideways and stumbling, halting but delayed like anguished doom metal blared from the other end of a canyon. Think Pyramids and Aevangelist submerged in black blood. Crank it up beloaw!

Throane’s Derrière-Nous, La Lumière came out a couple Fridays ago via Debemur Morti. Get it here.
