Father/Daughter Grindcore Band Sockweb’s Adam Young Has Committed Suicide

0

Adam Young, the father half of the adorable father/daughter grindcore duo Sockweb, was found dead early this morning in his own basement after hanging himself. He was just 28 years old. RockFeed.net was the first outlet to report the news.

In April, Young was arrested in New Castle, Indiana on two counts of intimidation, pointing a firearm, strangulation, four counts of domestic battery against his girlfriend Caroline. According to the victim, Young placed a knife against her side, and told her he was going to “Slice her open and play with her intestines.” She was later able to escape, and a passer-by picked her up and took her to the police station. Young’s trial had been set for July 26th.

In a post to Facebook shortly after Young’s death this morning, Adam’s mother Janelle Altin alleged that he was found not guilty of all the allegations against him and that Caroline had been “abusing herself,” and she excoriated the media and Sockweb fans for believing “the lies that were spun by the same person who pushed him to his death.” The post, which has since been made private or deleted, reads in full:

My son Adam Young is dead. He was found this morning by Caroline, hung by the neck in his basement. After we had been there last night until 3 am in the morning while she beat herself in the face and head and she shaved her head and screamed and yelled all while being video taped to show the world that he wasn’t abusing her that she was abusing herself. He was found not guilty of the crimes against him if any of you really care. He was innocent and many of you turned your backs on him and believed the lies that were spun by the same person who pushed him to his death. He is no more! His daughter has no father. I have no child. Because he loved someone and tried to help her and he suffered the ultimate price. His life was snuffed out in one swift move. May God show mercy.

Sockweb took the metalwebs by storm in early 2013. Their first song, “I Want Pancakes,” has accumulated 107,000 listens on Soundcloud. Young, together with his seven-year-old daughter Joanie, released the Bullies are Mean EP in late 2013, and their debut full-length Werewolf in 2014.

It’s difficult to parse out what happened between Young and Caroline, but this much is certain: Joanie, who is now 10 years old, is the real victim here. It’s a terrible shame she’ll have to grow up without a father, and the allegations against him make it incredibly hard to enjoy the work they created together.

R.I.P., Adam, and our thoughts go out to Joanie, Caroline, Janelle, and all of their families and friends.
