Exclusive Track Premiere: Lorelei, “Gallows Hymn”

It pleases us greatly when members of bands we love go on to do even bigger and better things once those bands fall by the wayside. In this day and age when it’s virtually impossible to make a living creating metal, too many talented musicians just throw in the towel and give up.

The latter is most certainly not the case with vocalist JJ Polachek IV, who — since he burst upon the scene with 7 Horns 7 Eyes stunning debut album four years ago — has kept busy with Ovid’s Withering (of which he’s no longer a member), Nekroi Theoi and Ill-Wisher. His most recent project finds him lending his extreme gutturals to North Carolina progressive metallers Lorelei, with whom he’ll be touring and recording an album in the near future. MetalSucks has nabbed a preview of that album in the form of a brand new song called “Gallows Hymn” … and damn, if this track is any indication the album is going to be an absolute beast. It’s progressive, it’s crushingly heavy, it grooves, the musicianship is stellar and the vocals are absolutely devastating.

Check out “Gallows Hymn” below. We’ll keep you posted on when Lorelei’s album will be coming out, but in the meantime those of you in select cities can catch the band live; dates at the bottom of this post.
