Fire from the Gods: Best Rap-Metal Revivalists Yet?

When I first read on The PRP that there was a new rap-metal band called Fire from the Gods, and that said rap-metal band was signed to Rise Records, I got really, really excited. Not about hearing their music, which I assumed would be total garbage, but from imagining this not-especially-clever clever headline:

IF THIS IS FIRE FROM THE GODS, PROMETHEUS DESERVED HIS PUNISHMENT

Then I actually watched the video for Fire from the Gods’ new track, “Excuse Me.”

I don’t like it.

BUT…

I do totally understand why someone might like it.

For one thing, it’s just a better song than the shit churned out by most rap-metal bands. Because it basically sounds like Periphery with rapping, your first instinct upon hearing it isn’t to find the nearest gun and blow your brains out.

For another thing, Fire from the Gods clearly have a little bit more on their minds than, say, Hasta La Muerte or Deja Vu, who basically just wanna make booty-shaking nonsense for the aggro crowd.

So, file this band alongside Otep under “Artists I Respect, Even if I Don’t Personally Enjoy Their Work.”

Check out “Excuse Me” below. The song will appear on Fire from the Gods’ new album, Narrative, which is out August 26. You can pre-order it here.
