Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.

GoatcraftGoatcraft
Yersinia Pestis (I, Voidhanger)
On a playlist with: Alcest, Spectral Lore
Listen Yersinia Pestis full stream (here)

Listeners who tire easily of blastbeats and mega-riffs and basically just screaming can discover reprieve in the soft but firm embrace of Yersinia Pestis — this is a metal album without the metal! You dig the highs and lows of extra-moody black metal; you like the fury and macht and destruction of death metal. S’all here, embedded though, so be patient and dig through these crafty (not-goat-like in any way) compositions.

·

SummitSummit
The Winds That Forestall Thy Return (I, Voidhanger)
On a playlist with: Inter Arma, Pelican, Lycus
Listen The Winds That Forestall Thy Return full stream (here)

Depressive, postmodern, and doomy as fuck, The Winds That Forestall Thy Return ticks all the requisite are-you-worthy boxes. But wait, there’s more: lengthy, open-string passages and ambient interludes, and some brow-squeezingly awesome songwriting. That is to say, go hide in the corner with your expensive headphones and practice tracing your closed-eye visuals, you’ll be treated.

DisemballerinaDisemballerina
Poison Gown CD (Minotauro)
On a playlist with: eagles soaring at full speed into down pillows, Kauan
Listen “Impaled Matador” (here)

According to the YouTube video description: “Revenge themed chamber music album combining harp, cello, viola, bajo quinto, guitar and a machete.” So basically Rambo invades your local philharmonic but instead of bloodbath there’s… funeral music. Interesting how one thing leads to another, and then one thing to yet another, but we all come back to the same final point/death? Also, why do metal fans like this kind of music? It must be the sadness.

·

Family - Future HistoryFamily
Future History (Prosthetic)
On a playlist with: The Ocean, Cult Of Luna, The Dillinger Escape Plan
Listen Future History full stream (here)

It’s not the hooks that get you (as a general rule), but the setups or layups. It’s not quite like using a tee in golf, but a little like hitting the goddamn thing so it doesn’t curve off and kill some family’s stupid Bichon. Family is one of those “puttem-inna-mixer, George” bands, but they keep calm about it. In fact, Future History weighs very little, not to say it isn’t heavy, but to say that there is a replacement for displacement.

·

UnderlingUnderling
Bloodworship reissue (Neuropa)
Breathe Deeply reissue (Neuropa)
On a playlist with: Glorior Belli, Wolves In The Throne Room, Aquilus
Listen Bloodworship full stream (here)
Listen Breathe Deeply full stream (here)

Underling Breathe DeeplyThe atmospheric black metal scene is rife with bullshit, generally. Underling cuts the shit from the bull and charges forward with incredible fucking might! A hyperbolic album indeed, but that’s this type of metal. Infinite build-ups, huge fucking chord explosions, and those upbeat feels which confuse/excite/enlighten you, because, honestly, you’re sick and you can’t tell anymore how you feel. Members of Fallujah, Arkaik, and Battlecross!

·

cane hillCane Hill
Smile (Rise)
On a playlist with: frown
Listen “You’re So Wonderful” (here)

The close-up voice: “Now the days drag on…” The echo totally-for-dumb-effect: “…and I don’t even care anymore!!!!!!” Devastated, annihilated, cremated, pasteurized, you’re left there with empty hands and empty insides, just vacuum. Vacuous is one of those words which looks good on paper and sounds even better when you say it three times in a row out loud.
