Man Dies After Fall at Chicago Open Air Festival

0

A Chicago man has passed away after falling two stories from a railing Friday night at the Chicago Open Air Festival according to the Chicago Sun-Times. 29-year-old Robert Smucz was on the mezzanine level of the Toyota Park outdoor stadium around 10pm when he plummeted to his death. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The Cook County medical examiner found he died due to multiple injuries as a result of the fall.

Chicago Open Air Festival took place over three days in Bridgeview, IL. This year’s lineup featured several prominent bands including Slipknot, Meshuggah, Korn, Killswitch Engage, Gojira, Carcass and many more — a fantastic lineup, actually. Such a shame it turned into a tragedy.

Stay safe at festivals, folks. Be aware of your surroundings and use common sense. Not to say that this man’s death was a result of the crowd, but when there are that many other people around things can get out of control quickly so it doesn’t hurt to take precautions. This isn’t a sermon, but it’s sad when these kinds of events are plagued by careless deaths… especially if they could have been prevented.
