Sex + NES: Shooter Jennings and Marilyn Manson’s NSFW “Cat People” Video is Rad

Although Marilyn Manson is currently the human equivalent of a dumpster fire, you’d never know it to watch the new music video for Shooter Jennings’ cover of David Bowie’s “Cat People,” to which Manson lends guest vocals. That is probably because Manson isn’t actually in the video, which is basically your typically pseudo-creepy Manson clip, only rendered as an old NES game. So, as it turns out, all it takes for Marilyn Manson to be cool is for Marilyn Manson to be absent.

Watch the video below (but don’t do it in public, because it has a lot of pixels fucking and stuff). Although it may initially seem like a fairly straightforward interpretation of the song’s title, there’s some interesting subtext, because it features a bunch of ladies wearing a variation of Daryl Hannah’s Blade Runner make-up, which Manson himself sometimes dons (see discussion below).

Is Manson trying to make a statement about what it means to be transgender?!?!?! Probably not, but hey, it’s art, you can prove any interpretation with a clever enough of argument.

Also, before you hit “play,” be forewarned: the director’s name will seem familiar. It’s not the guy you’re thinking of, though, even if that would add a whole other interesting level to the clip. Sorry.
