This New SwampCult Track is a Slimy Lovecraftian Lovefest

Sometimes I feel like metalheads lose sight of what H.P. Lovecraft was all about (this is a serious issue, guys). Sure, the kaiju-esque hugeness and destructive tendencies of his Old Gods are pretty important. But it’s the hatred of human life — that deep repulsion of anything other than mucous-skinned magic-wielders–that really rests at the bottom of Lovecraft’s message.

Thankfully, SwampCult know what’s up. This burbling new track by the Dutch “Lovecraftian metal” duo, titled “Chapter III – Al-Azif Necronomicon,” perfectly encapsulates both the creepiness and the repulsiveness of Lovecraftian horror. It’s not just about big scary things and the impending apocalypse they bring, it’s about mold, and cuttlefish, and black magic that is in fact an electromagnetic message from a god made of keloids. Fans of Autopsy, Hooded Menace, and Fetid Zombie will all dig this eldritch shit.

Listen to “Chapter III – Al-Azif Necronomicon” below. The band’s latest, The Festival, drops October 2nd. You can pre-order it here.
