Ravencult were one of those bands who surprised me with how quickly they won me over. Their band name suggested they might be some symphonic gothy bullshit, but instead their 2011 release Morbid Blood was packed with fun, evil, speedy black metal that had banging my head and making opera hands all day.

So it was with giddy excitement that I saw a new Ravencult song posted online at Metal Underground today. And it was with great satisfaction that I listened to it and thought, Ffffuck yes. The track, “Beneath the Relics of Old,” is everything I want from the band, a furious hard-hitting black metal assault with a deliciously malevolent riff at its center. The new vocals by Alex ‘A’ Papatheofanous take a little getting used to, and are a little more Ringworm-esque than one might expect from such a black metal-centric band, but they grow on you.

Light a fire to “Beneath the Relics of Old” below. Ravencult’s new album, Force of Profanation, drops 11/11 via Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.
