System of a Down Announce European Festival Dates for 2017

0

In case the video of cute, fluffy animals “covering” System of a Down’s “Chop Suey” that swept the Metalnets this summer isn’t still holding your attention, or in case Serj Tankian’s claim that the band is “communicating” about making new music isn’t enough for you, or in case you weren’t able to attend Riot Fest or Rock on Rio or the band’s tour in Armenia last year

… here’s some actual, really real news! After a not-so-subtle tease last month that led fans to speculate the band might be recording new material — which, of course, they weren’t — the band has announced a slate of European festival dates for next summer. Here they are, via Metal Injection:

06/07 – Nancy, FR @ Open Air Zenith
06/10 – Paris, FR @ Download Festival
06/12 – Prague, CZ @ O2 Arena
06/17 – Łódź, PL @ Impact Festival
06/20 – Nimes, FR @ Nimes Festival
06/23 – Madrid, ES @ Download Festival
07/02 – Arras, FR @ Main Square Festival

It seems pointless to continue guessing about when the band will make new music; they seem content making heaps of cash playing festivals for now. Anywhere but the U.S., except for short runs here and there! It seems SOAD are going by the Faith No More playbook of making tons of money abroad while stoking the flames of demand back home, so by the time they are ready to book a proper U.S. tour… ho boy, they’re gonna rake it in.
