It’s been nearly a year since Vince first made MetalSucks readers aware of Seattle stoner/sludge/doom duo Year of the Cobra, praising the material their EP, The Black Sun, for being “catchy and concise, and the haunting vocals and bass work together to propel the songs forward in a driving, engaging way.” And it would seem the gruesome twosome have used this year wisely: if their new song “The Siege” is any indication, then their debut full-length, In the Shadows Below, is gonna blow The Black Sun out of the water.

What makes “The Siege” so good? Simply put: it has a piranha-teeth-sharp hook. It’s gonna make your foot tap, it’s gonna make your head bob, it’s gonna have you whistling the melody for the rest of the day. That’s inevitable and inescapable. Why would you fight it? You wouldn’t, you can’t, you won’t. “The Siege”? Pssssh. Shoulda called this shit “Come Right In.”
