Within the Ruins Stream New Track, Announce New Album

0

Within the Ruins guitarist Joe Cocchi released a curious statement along with the band’s new single “Death of the Rockstar:”

“Death Of The Rockstar” stems from our distaste for the current state of the music industry. The song is straight forward and speaks for itself. We live in an era where mindlessness and fads now trump true art and creativity. The music industry is polluted. Please enjoy.

It’s not clear whether Cocchi is referring to strictly the industry side of the things — the people who work at labels, management companies, blogs, etc — or if he means the music itself that the industry churns out. The former would make a ton of sense; the music industry is a fucked up place! But if he means the music that the industry promotes… well, I know a whole lot of people who would point to Within the Ruins is a perfect example of that. I’m not one of them — I enjoy the band alright — but it could definitely be perceived as a pot and kettle situation. I guess every band thinks that all other bands are generic, right?

Anyway, check out “Death of the Rockstar” below. The intro is a touch more thrashy than usual Within the Ruins fare, but things quickly progress to plenty of that patented bounce we’ve come to expect from this band. I especially like the guitar solo.

Halfway Human will come out March 3rd, 2017 via eOne.
