Here are Some More Details About Mastodon’s Next Album!

0

We know Mastodon finished recording their next album earlier this fall, and that Brendan O’Brien — with whom the band collaborated on 2009’s Crack the Skye — produced it. We know that the lyrical themes are about cancer, based loosely on the band members’ recent experiences with close friends and family. And that’s just about everything that’s been revealed so far.

Thankfully drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor spilled a bit more to Rolling Stone in a recent interview. Here’s what else we’ve got now:

  • it’ll tell the story of “a desert-like version of the Grim Reaper” as a metaphor for cancer
  • it will contain twelve tracks
  • it’ll come out in April 2017
  • guitarist Bill Kelliher was a major writing force

Cool, eh? There’s plenty more about the nitty-gritty of the music itself — such as the use of acoustic guitars — that Dailor reveals in the interview. But of course the most important thing is that the band brings the mix of massive riffs and proggy goodness for which we all love them so much, and everything else is secondary… but hey, new Mastodon soon, and that’s pretty damn exciting no matter what.
