Even if all you’ve heard of the new EP by Paria is the puny trailer above, you can still be super excited for its release. You’re pumped if a fan of their 2013 classic Surrealist Satanist, of course; that shit is hypnotic like a Charles Manson sucker-punch on acid. But the trailer alone is enough to excite a non-fan, not least of all thanks to Paria’s new vocalist. Crank it up!!!!

If you asked a hundred fans to define the “metalgaze” vibe, you’d hear a hundred descriptions of its vocals as pushed back, blurry, and effects-laden. But Angela Martyr’s heavy dream pop breaks from the tradition of Jesu and Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard — and any shoegaze band for that matter — via vocals at front center. It’s pretty profound, listen and see. Let’s nonchalantly agree to count this one for our Best Of 2017 lists.

Did you know that some people do not eat cilantro? They are nauseated by its scent and taste, to them it’s basically a mouthful of soft soap. That’s a shame, for these nice people miss out on a singular and memorable experience. Nothing is quite like cilantro, right? Maybe it has an equivalent in extreme metal: rough, guttural metal with scummy production. Some people just hate it, and treat it like it’s a failed attempt at “quality” metal. No, the scum bands are nailing it. Just like cilantro.
