Tool Confirmed to Headline Governor’s Ball 2017; More Tour Dates in the Works?

0

Tool haven’t played a show inside the borders of the five boroughs of New York City since 2001. While they’ve performed plenty of times within driving distance in what would be considered “the New York City area,” it’s still pretty fucking crazy that they haven’t the most populous metropolis in the US in over 15 fucking years. And, as we know, New Yorkers are a stubborn/lazy bunch: if we can’t get there by public transportation, there’s a good chance we’re not going at all.

So, rejoice! The rumors that surfaced in December indicating Tool would headline this year’s Governor’s Ball have been confirmed. The festival will take place on Randall’s Island — the site of many Ozzfests and Warped Tours past — over three days, June 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2017. No word on which day Tool will play.

The Governor’s Ball lineup is diverse as usual: other acts announced so far include Lorde, Childish Gambino, Wu Tang Clan, Wiz Khalifa, Cage the Elephant, Franz Ferdinand, Charli XCX and Charles Bradley.

How fucking cool is that? I’m honestly way more excited for a bill like that than I would be Super Brutal Death Black Fest 2k17 or whatever. Variety is the spice of life, and there’s only so much metal we can listen to.

Three-day passes go on sale this Friday, January 6th, at noon via the official Governor’s Ball website. Having never been to Governor’s Ball before, I’m not sure whether one-day tickets will eventually be made available; does anyone know? I sure hope so. Not that I don’t want to enjoy other bands (see above), but one day is plenty for me.

Does this mean Tool will announce more tour dates soon? Certainly could be, although a one-off fly-in show of this magnitude certainly isn’t out of the question. We’ll keep you posted.
