Prog fans, have we got a band for you: Nova Collective, a new project featuring Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs (bass), his Trioscapes bandmate, Matt Lynch (drums, also of Cynic fame), Haken’s Richard Henshell (guitars), and Henshell’s former Haken bandmated, Pete Jones (keyboards). The band has announced a March 10 release date through Metal Blade for their debut album, The Further Side, and released the first single from that album, “Dancing Machines.”

As you would expect from a band with these musicians performing a song called “Dancing Machines” on an album entitled The Further Side, the music is super-weedy, semi-jazzy, quasi-science-fictiony, go-for-broke instrumental prog. Vince and I saw Particle by accident once, and this kinda reminds me of that, only it’s not, y’know, terrible granola-yuppie crap for people who love “Dave” and Birkenstocks.

But I digress.

“Dancing Machines” is an awesome showcase for some insanely talented dudes, and you should definitely check it out, which you can do below. Then pre-order The Further Side here. No live dates have been announced yet but hopefully that will change soon… I have to imagine these fellas would put on a pretty insane show.
