Unsigned and Unholy: Mynas, Northern Widows, Abscission

Mynas are the best Whoracle/Colony/Clayman-era In Flames worship band you will ever hear, and I mean that as a compliment (that’s In Flames’ golden period, IMO). Even the vocals are a deadringer for Anders Friden’s barked scream. Not reinventing the wheel here — like, not at all — but Mynas will scratch a particular itch for fans of a certain kind of metal.

Columbus, OH outfit Northern Widows released a new song in February, and it’s just over two minutes long. But fuck, it’s a banger! A fiery brew of black metal, death metal and noise, it’s a riff-fest that’ll leave you ready to hear more when the band gets around to finishing their next full-length, which they promise MetalSucks is on the way.

Denmark’s Abscission play a brand of blackened death metal that should sound familiar to fans of Behemoth or Rotting Christ, but theirs has an atmospheric, ethereal bent that calls to mind modern DM acts such as Fallujah and Rivers of Nihil. Their debut album Vacuity (March 31st), of which the band has provided MetalSucks an advance copy, has waaaay more like the titular track, posted below.
