Shit That Comes Out Today: May 12, 2017

Howdy howdy, MetalSucksers. Anso DF is currently on sabbatical from the MetalSucks Mansion, so until he returns I’ll be writing your Satanic bible of all the week’s notable releases. Now I don’t ever remember agreeing to do this — it’s surely the result of some Neilstein black magic fuckery — but nonetheless, he has a signed contract and if I want my Jack Daniel’s privileges in the MS Mansion back, then it looks like I have to do this. So here’s some shit that comes out this week.\

killswitch-engageKillswitch Engage
Alive or Just Breathing (Vinyl) (Raodrunner)
On a playlist with: Pretty much anything
Listen full album (here)

If I really have to tell you about Killswitch Engage then you either pay zero attention to metal or you’re just now getting into it. If it’s the first one of those, then why the fuck are you even here? If it’s the second, then welcome to metal because this is one hell of an album by one of the genre’s best acts. Although As Daylight Dies will always be my favorite KSE album, this is still a great listen that will sound even better on its vinyl release.

gideonGideon
Cold (Equal Vision Records)
On a playlist with: Fit For A King, Erra, War of Ages
Listen “Cursed” (here)

I’ll be the first to admit that when I type “Alabama hardcore” into my search bar, music isn’t what I’m looking for. Yeah, I know calling Gideon hardcore is a bit of a stretch, but they’ve got some hardcore elements there and that joke was too funny not to write. Anyway, this will be Gideon’s fourth full-length album and I am somehow just now finding out that they are a Christian band. Whatever. The music is decent so as long as you don’t look up the lyrics then you can continue to enjoy Gideon as much as you want.

apocalypseorchestraApocalypse Orchestra
The End Is Nigh (Despotz Records)
On a playlist with: Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Alestorm
Listen “The Garden of Earthly Delights (here)

The minuscule fraction of me that is Scottish is absolutely delighted whenever I hear bagpipes. As such, when I heard the bagpipes over chugging guitars I could not be more excited. Well, maybe I’ve been more excited somewhere along the road, but for this STCOT that’s my peak. Apocalypse Orchestra are a great pick for anyone who enjoys folk metal and/or watching dudes wearing monk robes play music.

antropofagusAntropofagus
Methods of Resurrection Through Evisceration (Comatose Music)
On a playlist with: Dying Fetus, Aborted, Necrophagist
Listen “Spawn of Chaos” (here)

We can’t even go one fucking week without an album as heavy as your mother. Kidding, kind of. But in all serious, Antropafagus have written one dick-kicker of an album that fans of Dying Fetus and Aborted will absolutely love. This album also has a hell of a title that could also double as the name of a Nile song, but I digress. Fasten your seat belt and hold on tight because this album is going to fuck your shit up if you’re not careful with it.

wormwitchWormwitch
Strike Mortal Soil (Prosthetic Records)
On a playlist with: Wolves In The Throne Room, Alcest, Deafheaven
Listen “Even The Sun Will Die” (here)

If there has ever been a band to kick back to after a long, shitty day at work and burn one, then Wormwitch are that band. These dudes have a style that blends melodies and black metal chaos perfectly and they do it better than Deafheaven. If you’ve never given the blackgaze vein of music a shot, then I would highly (pun intended) recommend it. You’re in for a treat with these guys.
