WSOU Picks of the Week: Aether Realm, Integrity, The Faceless

0

Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:

Aether Realm – “The Tower” (Kathrine W.)

Whiplash vocals just this side of a cookie monster growl laid neatly over the top NWOBHM guitars, drum, and bass allow this track to stand out as wholly original while still reverent of classic metal influences. So infectious is this track that I felt compelled to purchase the full album and happily found that the other ten songs were more of the same brilliantly-crafted and beautifully brutal works of sonic origami.

Integrity – “Hymn For The Children Of The Black Flame” (Dylan G.)

When I hear the term “metalcore” my mind immediately goes to crab-sapiens in skinny jeans, neck tattoos and murder conspirators with manboobs (I’m looking at you, breakdowns the band). I appreciate how fitting the name “Integrity” is considering they break the mold for bands that fall into the “metalcore” pool. Integrity stay true to their hardcore roots and they merge influences from heavy metal just right, in my opinion.

The Faceless – “Black Star” (Garren L.)

A short while ago the Faceless unveiled a new track called “Black Star.” It’s an excellent example of what The Faceless do best, which is taking a highly progressive sound and merging it with hints of heaviness. The Faceless have once again crafted another track which is an absolute joy to listen to.
